Apple customer satisfaction the highest…what a joke

August 20, 2008

University of Michigan released its annual American Customer Satisfaction Index scores for the PC industry on Tuesday. In the index Apple seems to have outscored its competition for the fifth straight year. ACSI measures the overall customer satisfaction with a company on parameters like quality, value, customer service, etc. Apple’s score was 85 and has actually increased in 2008 over that last year.

This is a big joke. The comparison is unfair. How can you compare an Apple hardware running a superior Mac OS Leopard when all the PC manufactures had to be content with that lousy piece of software called Windows Vista from Microsoft? Its really an apples to oranges comparison. The PC manufactures like Dell, HP, etc. had to face the ire of the customers mostly because of problems with the OS and not because the build of those systems were frail. Do the PC manufactures really deserve this blame? I do not think so. It’s grave injustice being done here. Let Apple open up its OS and make it compatible with PCs and then compare. Probably the results would be more appropriate. Maybe we should just compare the hardware aspects of the computers sold. That would be more fair comparison.

The failure of Microsoft Windows Vista has definitely benefited Apple. This is evident from the sales of Apple computers.

Bad luck for the PC manufactures. Probably this would make them wiser against adopting Microsoft’s operating systems in the future the moment those are launched.

What an idiotic comment. Of course the comparison is fair. It just isn’t equal. The reason it isn’t equal is that the computer runs with an operating system and Apple provides both the computer and the operating system. The unfair comparison is in price. Since all the other computers compared run someone else’s operating system and have financially beneficial OEM deals with Microsoft, they can charge less on entry level machines. They cut their profit margins and only have to worry about hardware R and D, not integration of hardware and software and cross platform ecosystems (iPods, iPhones). The comparison is of the computer and their operating system, because consumers (non computer nerd types) think that these are the same as “a computer.” You’re right, OS X not only doesn’t suck, it’s fun, hence the consumer experience is more satisfactory. If the hardware manufacturers don’t like it, they can select or develop another operating system, just not OSX. Why would Apple open their advantage over other computer manufacturers? For most Windows of any flavor is “good enough.” For those that do not feel this way they have another choice. Those more technically savvy can always wrestle with Linux.

I’m surprised the Windows PCs manufacturers rated as high as they did. :)

You compare it in the same way that has always compared Apple market share with every other PC vendor on the planet. The dynamics are the same.
Or how about comparing simply the satisfaction of user with merely the operating system.
Never heard any complaints about how unfair is to compare apple to the entire industry when it comes to market share.

The “joke” is on those unfortunates that stick with cheap Windows PCs. Sometimes you get what you pay for.

Perhaps the PC manufacturers should form a coalition to throw $$$ and expertise at some flavour or other of Linux. Linux could take over from M$ but the developers will never stop their bloody stupid internal bickering and pool their resources to get the OS to the point where Granny or the CEO can use it. There should be only 2 flavours: Desktop and Mobile, end of story!
I realise that it’s anathema to put effort into something that will be given away, but it would level the playing field for them, without any one company having to take the full cost on the chin the way Apple has from day one.

Ummmm….yeah, it’s not fair that apple out engineered Microsoft.
No one says of makers have to use vista, but anything else will
Suck, and get even poorer satisfaction scores. Mac OS is the
Crown jewel. Good luck improving those scores; Microsoft is so 80’s.

Apple makes a better product, they should have a better response. if PC manufacturers want better customer satisfaction, they should switch OS.

By the way, I believe the Cust Sat levels of Apple are inflated, due to the overwhleming acceptance of the products. Consumers give Apple the benefit of the doubt more often that they should, because they can’t consider not having the product.

Apples are great! They are very cute, lot fancy packaging, and I love they way all your choices are made for you. All part of the “Apple Experience” which is very clearly defined. “Think different” – now that is a joke. “No thinking” is more like it. If you want a computer, go buy one. A computer allows you to do what you want, it doesn’t force you to become a mindless sheep. So go buy your Apple, and then go weld the hood of your car shut. Then go about your “iLife” in your tiny little “iWorld” with your, but don’t open your eyes to reality. Steve Job’s goal is to charge you more than Apple products are worth by playing on your insecurities. After all, you are special and unique, just like your iPod.
